Fyodor’s Performance Carousel (2014), Fyodor Pavlov-Andreevich

"Fyodor’s Performance Carousel" was a performance installation consisting of a carousel divided into nine parts installed at Faena Arts Centre in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The structure was designed by Andreevich and the architect Marko Brajovic. Nine performance artists were invited to each create a performance in their designated space. The carousel was turning with the help of three home-trainer bicycles positioned around the perimeter of the installation. The performances in the nine spaces of the carousel each went on all day for seven days. Some of the participating artists included: Chuyia Chia, Eloise Fornieles, Belen Romero Gunset, Andrés Knob, Bhagavan-David Barki de Lima, as well as Andreevich himself. Only 50 people were allowed inside the space every hour. Periodically, the carousel would stop, and if they chose to, the public was allowed to step inside and participate in the action happening in the spaces. In this way, the performance explored the dynamic between the artist, the art, and the public.

Fyodor Pavlov-Andreevich (Russian, lives between Moscow, London and Sao Paulo) is a Brazilian artist, British curator, and Russian museum director but also writer, theater director and filmmaker. His recent artistic works include Hygiene (2009), a performance at Deitch Projects, NYC; My Mouth Is a Temple (2009), an installation/performance curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist and Maria Balshaw, part of Marina Abramovic Presents (Manchester International Festival, UK); Whose Smell Is This? (2010), a site specific installation created for the wall next to the public toilet as a special project for Armory/Volta art fairs, NYC; EGOBOX (2010), a touring installation/performance, part of International Performance Festival, curated by Klaus Biesenbach and RoseLee Goldberg (CCC Garage, Moscow); My Water Is Your Water (2010), an installation/performance curated by Maria Montero (Sao Paulo Bienal, Luciana Brito Galeria, 2010); and The Great Vodka River, a site specific sculpture/performance curated by Katya Krylova as a part of Art Public (curator Patrick Charpenel) at Art Basel Miami Beach (commissioned by Beluga, presented by Luciana Brito Galeria, 2010). His work is a part of the book ‘Marina Abramovic And The Future Of Performance Art’ published by Prestel (2010). Fyodor Pavlov-Andreevich is represented by Paradise Row Gallery in London, Galerie Stanislas Bourgain in Paris and Luciana Brito Galeria in Sao Paulo. In 2010 AST/Corpus Books published Fyodor's first novel in Russian, "Roman s opozdaniyami' (A Love Affair With Being Late). In 2010 Fyodor Pavlov-Andreevich joined Solyanka State Gallery in Moscow as its director. The space is now re-launched under the name of SOLYANKA VPA (Videoart. Performance.
