"Be part of art"

"I told Mauricio: ‘This is the craziest exhibition I have ever been to in my life!’ I can be part of it. I think people should transmit their thought and their art in any way they prefer, painting...or making music [etc]. If it makes you feel good and doesn't harm others, I am in favor of it. I find it here. It was something I spent years looking for. This is my second time at Terra Comunal-MAI and I'll keep coming back until the end. Yesterday I started to bring people inside SESC. A group of older ladies passed by, they were looking at us and I said to them:. ‘Be part of art.’ They said they had seen the cans of spray paint and had arguments with their children and grandchildren about it. I answered: ‘Free Yourself.’ They scribbled on the walls and said they felt better, that they understood their children and grandchildren."

Today when we enter the area in which artist Mauricio Ianês The Bond takes place, it is clear how the space has changed since the exhibition opened. On the first day the walls were intact, without any marks from the public. The notion between artist and public are purposely confused here: this space offers a great invitation to the public to intervene in some way. There is no set agenda at all, just freedom –as if that was not enough.

It was precisely this great freedom that caught the attention of 19 year-old student, skater, fighter and musician Yago Stein. According to the young man, this is what he has always sought, not only in terms of experiencing art. Yago’s image was captured with a can of spray paint in hand while he was painting on his second visit to Terra Comunal- MAI.

Terra Comunal - MAI is free and open to the public until May 10, 2015 @SESC Pompeia, São Paulo - Brazil.
